MHAF and Meade Custom Drumming Supplies Midwest Highland Arts Fund North American Gold Medal Drumming Championship, presented by Premier Percussion, Pearl Drums, and Andante Percussion, to be held January 16, 2009 in the Grand Ballroom of the Holiday Inn at the Plaza, in Kansas City. The North American Gold Medal, 2.5 inches (6.5 cm) in diameter gold-plated solid silver, featuring the MHAF logo on the obverse, and the MCDS logo on the reverse, will be awarded to the Winner in Scottish snare drumming. Prize moneys include First USD $750, Second $500, and Third $250. MHAF will supplement the First Prize to include up to $1,500 USD for air travel from North America for the Champion and his/her piper to compete in the World Solo Drumming Championships in October 2009, or to travel to Kansas City to compete at Winter Storm 2010. The North American Gold Medal Champion will choose his/her prize snare drum from an array of Pearl, Andante, and Premier drums. Each Competitor, a drummer graded Open/professional or Grade One, will submit one each M-S-R set and H-J set. The three highest aggregate scores of the MSR and H/J will determine the contest placing for prizes. The contests will be held just before the annual MHAF Winter Storm Weekend, January 16 - 18, and that Saturday evening's WINTER STORM 2009: The Pipes & Drums Concert, performed by the workshop faculty. The Champion will also be invited to perform with the winners of the MHAF & MWPBA US Silver Medal Piobaireachd Competition, the RG Hardie & Co - MHAF US Gold Medal Piobaireachd Competition, the Tone Czar Bagpipes - MHAF North American Professional Ceol Beag Competition, the Davis Drums - MHAF Gold Medal Bass Drumming Championship, and the MHAF Gold Medal Tenor Drumming Championship. Midwest Highland Arts Fund incorporated as a non-profit in 2001 and promotes the Scottish Highland performing arts in the United States through workshops, concerts, and competitions. Augmenting the excellent instruction available from local pipe bands, MHAF brings world-class musicians to Kansas City. The Fund is a national leader in Highland Arts instruction.
