Midwest Highland Arts Fund proudly presents the Henderson's Pipe & Drum Supply - Midwest Highland Arts Fund North American Professional Ceol Beag Competition
The Henderson's Gold Medal, 2.5 inches (6.5 cm) in diameter of gold-plated silver featuring the MHAF logo, will be awarded to the day's Champion. Prize moneys include First winning USD $750, Second $500, and Third $250.
Pipers graded B or higher, or Open/Professional by their Pipe Band Association are eligible to compete. The Judges will choose a march, a strathspey, and a reel from four submitted by the Competitor for a qualifying round, then the six highest aggregate Scorers will submit one MSRHJ set for the Championship round. The three highest aggregate scores of this final determine prize placing.
The contest will be held just before the annual MHAF Winter Storm Weekend, January 14 - 16, and that Saturday evening's WINTER STORM 2012: The Pipes & Drums Concert, performed by the workshop faculty; the Champion will also be invited to perform with the winners of the McCallum & MWPBA US Silver Medal Piobaireachd Competition, RG Hardie – MHAF US Gold Medal Piobaireachd Competition, the MHAF North American Gold Medal Drumming Championship, the MHAF Gold Medal Bass Drumming Championship, and the MHAF Gold Medal Tenor Drumming Championship.
Midwest Highland Arts Fund incorporated as a non-profit in 2001 and promotes the Scottish Highland performing arts in the United States through workshops, concerts, and competitions. Augmenting the excellent instruction available from local pipe bands, MHAF brings world-class musicians to Kansas City. The Fund is a national leader in Highland Arts instruction.
